The Kyoto Prefectural Library opened in Kyoto Gyoen National Garden (Imperial Palace) in Meiji 31 (1898), and moved to its present location in Meiji 42 (1909). The building was designed by Goichi Takeda, one of the architects representing modern Japan who was referred to as "the father of the Kansai architectural world".
