Fujiwara no Nobuko, who is also known as Empress Gojo, received Daijo-kai (Mahayana precepts) from the Todai-ji Temple monks, and supported Akira Keiko, who is the real mother of her 9-year-old grandson Emperor Seiwa. She became Grand Empress Dowager in Jogan 3 (861), after she received Bosatsu-kai (Bodhisattva Precepts) from a monk Ennin and became a pries.
