"Nejirimampo", which means a twisted tunnel, is a tunnel for pedestrians going toward Nanzen-ji Temple through under the Keage Incline. The bricks were piled in a spiral manner so that the tunnel can support the weight of the incline trucks carrying boats above it. There are framed words at the exits north and south side of tunnel. Both are the word of Kunimichi Kitagaki, one saying "Excellent view and unexpected idea", and the other "Where there is a will, there is a way".
