Biwako-Hamaotsu Station is the terminal station at the Otsu side of Keihan Keishin Line. It was first opened as Otsu Station of Tokaido Line, and became a branch-line station when the Tokaido Line route was changed. The name of the station was changed to "Hamaotsu" then.
